The same year, she was hired as an entry-level employee at the restaurant An American Place for one year. Guarnaschelli had her early culinary training by watching his mother modify cookbooks and try recipes. Her culinary experience began when she watched her mother test recipes at home as she edited cookbooks. Guarnaschelli was eventually the chef in charge at Butter. Guarnaschelli participated in the 2007 Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she took on Cat Cora. In addition to her role as a Judge on the show, in 2011 she participated in The Next Iron Chef's fourth season, where she finished third. She lost out in the Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast. The fourth season of The Next Iron Chef, she began working as a sous chef to Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian. In 2008, she was the host of Food Network's The Cooking Loft with Alex Guarnaschelli where she teaches the students in a small class in the art of teaching them to reinvent classic dishes.
